First and foremost we hope you all will take precautions to ensure that all of your families and loved ones are prepared and safe. Storms of this magnitude should not be taken lightly.We also know that aside from family and other loved ones, our business are also an important factor in our lives. So we thought we should offer a few tips to help keep your business data safe during the storm.
Here’s a list of things you can do in your office to prepare for the Storm:
- Update and inform all personnel of company contact information and communication strategies
- Power down and unplug all computer hardware and if necessary move to the middle of the room, if possible relocate servers and other critical devices to a secure and windowless room. (Disconnecting any cable or telephone lines as well)
- Place any terminal stations or printers on desks or elevated surfaces and cover with plastic.
- If unable to remove servers or workstations from their locations ensure that an adequate UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) is in place and operational.
- Move any critical software, documents, licenses, accessories to a protected location.
- Make sure that your information is backed up off-site in case of damage to your equipment. - Make sure you have an email continuity system in place so that communications can be maintained in the event of long-term outages
